"His Excellency Mr. Charles Helou, The President of Lebanon, ... I come forward with this letter to ask if you are fully aware of what your army commander Gen. Emile Boustani is doing here in Cairo, and if you agree to the major concessions he is giving in favor of the Palestinian armed struggle on Lebanese territory ... It is important for me to inform your excellency that I, Jamal Abd Al-Nasser, do not dare to give such concessions in favor of the Palestinians on Egyptian territory..."
This passage is from a letter that was sent by Jamal Abd Al-Nasser, the President of Egypt at that time, to one of the political dwarfs who successively came to power in Lebanon. A thorough look at this letter tells us the great treason that this regime committed on the hands of army commander Emile Boustani, the consent of the so-called President of the republic, a cowardly House of Parliament that signed an agreement without reading it and a Prime Minister, Rashid Karami, who resigned in protest because the Lebanese army stood firmly against the Palestinian transgressions, he also refused to form a new government in order to exert more pressure in favor of the Palestinian interests.
November 3, 1969, Gen. Emile Boustani signed the Cairo accord with the refugee Yasser Arafat. This accord gave the PLO the right to use parts of the Lebanese territory (Arqoub area in south Lebanon) to wage guerilla wars against Israel. It is noteworthy to say that the Israel-Lebanon border did not witness any hostilities since 1948.
A traitor Prime Minister who is motivated with Arab instincts against the best interest of his country. An army commander who surrenders the sovereignty of his country in his bid for presidency. A weak and coward President who instead of putting out the fire, used his constitutional right to defer the troubles to his sequel. Through all these the sovereignty of Lebanon was given up. The door was open for a confrontation between the PLO and the Israelis on one side and between the PLO and the free Lebanese on the other side.
The series of concessions started to unfold when the PLO managed to attract most of the politicians and the authorities, some buying them off, others through intimidation and threats. The PLO continued its aggravation to the Lebanese military establishment, which constituted the foremost defense line of sovereignty, to make it look as if it is weak and helpless in defending its land and people. The aim of the PLO was to establish a substitute land for the Palestinians in Lebanon (Abu Iyyad declared that the road to Palestine goes through Jounieh and Uyyun Al-Siman).
Amid this tension, several clashes broke out between the Palestinians and the Lebanese army. It is comprehensible to have a military confrontation between two armies present on the same land, but what was incomprehensible is that the President of the republic (Sleiman Franjieh) would give orders to the Lebanese army to halt its plans to attack the Palestinian military camps in submission to Arab pressure. The Arabs moved quickly in support of the Palestinians while Syria (the sisterly neighbor) closed the border with Lebanon on May 2, 1973, and forced a three-month siege to exert pressure on the government, the officials and the army.
Between the support of the Arabs and the cowardice of Lebanese officials another humiliating accord was signed on May 17, 1973, between the Lebanese government and the PLO. It was known as the Melkart accord. The countdown for the explosion began. The Palestinians armed with money, weapons, the press in addition to Lebanese deceivers fueled the explosion and the fierce confrontations which started on Sunday morning, April 13, 1975.
The situation divided and classified the Lebanese into two categories:
The first category, is nothing but political trash that is present in all of the different communities of Lebanon. Known as the National Movement, this category had the support of the Arab nations and its role was to cover-up the Palestinian violations and to insinuate that the war was a civil war between the Lebanese themselves.
The second category, united men from all communities and sects. Men who believed in Lebanon as the land of civilizations and values, men who believed in God, came together to form an army to defend Lebanon - the geography, the history and the great heritage.
In the heart of danger, the Guardians of the Cedars was founded. Since 1969, a group of men has been meeting to form a political gathering with the task of standing up against the new invasion of Lebanon. The group included the present leader of the party, Mr. Etienne Sakr, and the great poet and philosopher Said Akl who draw the ideological framework of the gathering. Although the gathering was licensed under the name Lebanese Renovation Party, it could not come out publicly, due to reasons difficult to explain now, nevertheless, the leader of the party continued his way and started to assemble the young Lebanese to defend Lebanon and train them on how to use arms. They formed a genuine resistance nucleus to start with the defense. The streets of Beirut witnessed for the first time graffiti on the walls that stated "no for the Arabs", "no for the Syrians" and "no Palestinians will remain on the Lebanese territory". These carried the signature GoCF, Guardians of the Cedars Front. The ideological framework was based on three principles:
The motto of the Guardians of the Cedars came to light: The Word was married to the Gun and it gave birth to the Guardians of the Cedars |

Participating in all the national fighting fronts against the Palestinians, the Syrians, then the Iranians and their allies; and total refrain from taking part in any internal sectarian and denominational feud, knowing that our fighting cadres included Lebanese elements from all sects in conformity with the principle of Lebanese Nationalism that we adopted in our ideology.
Actively sharing in the liberation of Tal el-Zaatar, Jisr el-Basha, Nabaa and Carantina Palestinian military camps, thus providing a clean terrain from any foreign presence.
Actively participated in uniting arms under the banner of the "Lebanese Forces" in 1976. The Lebanese Forces came to light in the command headquarters of the Guardians of the Cedars.
Although the Lebanese Front approved it, the party rejected the decision to enter the Arab Deterrent Forces into the liberated eastern areas. Our rejection to this decision was declared in a news conference in which we called upon our fighters and party members to resort to the Aqura mountains. From there we started our new war headed by the party's leader (1979-80-81) against the Syrian forces who were acting under the cover of the Arab Deterrent Forces. The party considers the Syrians as the continuos and pressing danger on Lebanon.
1978, actively participated in driving out the Syrian army from the eastern area and liberating it once again from any foreign presence (the 100 day war).
1981, actively participated in defending the city of Zahle and preventing the Syrian army from sweeping it.
1982, the party approved the Safety of the Galilee operation which we considered an operation that could have liberated Lebanon from the hands of the Palestinians and the Syrians if the Gemayels, considering that the political decision of the Lebanese resistance was confiscated by them, worked well to make good out of it and signed the May 17 accord.
1985, active participation in halting the military march at the gates of Kfar-fallus, Jezzine, after the Palestinians, the extremists and their allies swept through eastern Sidon. The fierce defense of Jezzine made it the liberated substitute for the eastern areas.
1987, represented with its leader, the party participated in reviving the Lebanese Front, and in 1989 left the Front after it took the decision to walk in the path of Arab initiatives that were concluded with the Taef accord.
1989, the Wide Front for Liberation and Change was formed and took the headquarters of the party as its main command center. The front included a number of active intellectual, political and social figures and it strongly stood in support of Gen. Michael Aoun's government.
1990, The Lebanese Forces broke into the party's headquarters, looted its contents and detained the leader of the party who later took refuge in the Jezzine area.
1990, reviving the new Lebanese Front under the leadership of the late Danny Chamoun. The party participated with its representatives.
March 1990 up till now, the party is continuing its struggle to liberate Lebanon from Jezzine. |

Since the formation of our Party, "The Guardians of the Cedars-National Lebanese Movement", our principal aim has been CONSTANT RENOVATION. Otherwise we would be adding another name to the existing long list of political parties in Lebanon, for no valid purpose whatsoever.
The RENOVATION we are toiling for is, at the same time factual, dynamic, remedial and incentive. It is above all, totally founded on historic experience. Among the numerous items involved in our contemplated renovation are the following:
Briefly, we are aiming at a comprehensive revolution, which will resent any further patching to the dilapidated cloak; an aim so far regarded by the others as Alien to their logic. It is the actual accomplishment of such a revolution, which acted as a basic incentive for the creation of our movement, which we have founded on three principles, namely: Intellect, Rectitude and Practicality:
INTELLECT consists in Keeping our partisans well informed and well equipped with updated knowledge, sound reasoning and valid evidence.
RECTITUDE consists in bracing the mind with authentic historic facts, true principles and clear honest stands.
PRACTICALITY consists in assessing events rationally and employing them to the best advantage of our Party’s march.
Our partisans are expected to adhere to these principles and are trained to practice them in three phases, namely:
FACTUALITY consists in treating events rationally and impersonally.
INCARNATION consists in viewing events as if the partisans themselves had initiated them.
DEDICATION consists in transforming the current events into beneficial political accomplishments.
In order to help our partisans accomplish all three phases, we have created a preparatory institute where the candidates first get acquainted with our fundamental doctrines and principles, then decide whether to join the Party or otherwise.
Those who willingly choose to become dedicated partisans, follow a series of educational courses (within our premises) on politics, history, sociology and humanity. In addition to the above, we publish a private periodical by the name of "National Alertness" to help guiding our partisans’ steps in harmony with the Party’s principles.
The President of the Party who is responsible for conducting its march, directing its course and achieving its goals, also has to define the doctrines, ensure rectitude, promote alertness and look after the proper formation of the partisans.
This is how we have always managed to concentrate on quality and avoid cumulative quantity, thus turning our partisans into real disciples who carry the cause deep in their hearts and, each one of them considers himself leader of the march.
Therefore, the "EXTRACTS" you will read in these documents are but one link in the long chain of our revolutionary trend and, it is earnestly hoped that, through your kind efforts, they will reach many citizens, who will then be free to accept or reject them, after serious and scrupulous consideration of course.
The main evils dominating the political trend in Lebanon which urged us to publish "National Alertness" are:
In our opinion, Idolatry applies to those citizens who blindly idolize specific persons that unscrupulously abuse, cheat and humiliate them.
On the other hand, Instinctive subordination applies to those citizens who instinctively and blindly surrender to the opinion of their family, tribe, feudal leader, local organization, faith or community. These clans are subsequently transformed into dummy- political-parties camouflaged by sundry doctrines and principles that usually crumble under the slightest confrontation.
How could our citizens possibly suffer such primitive mentality when they are the descendants of a nation as old as mankind and whose mind is equally as old!
Our Nation has always had its natural geographical boundaries, its uninterrupted history, its distinguished culture and a great heritage with which to defy the world. It is therefore most unfortunate that some of us are either ashamed of their Lebanese nationality or consider it a mere legend with no scientific support of any kind. There are others who dare to pretend that it is a casual "rash" left over by the 19th century.
Our present armed struggle against the Syrian and Arabian ideologies has been initiated by our firm belief in the authenticity of the historic and geographic facts that have always confirmed the integrity of our Nation.
Lebanon’s sixth birth is about to take place soon.
The first birth took place in the days of Fakhruddin and was followed by a second in 1920 under the name of "Great Lebanon". In 1943 "Independent Lebanon" was born, followed by a 4th rebirth in 1958 as the "Shaky Lebanon" and, finally in 1975 the "Cracked Lebanon" came to existence.
Lebanon’s sixth rebirth will only be achieved by the alertness of its people and their human pride, not by their fanaticism, chauvinism, antagonism or isolationism.
Furthermore, Lebanon must spare no effort to resume his historic role as a country of enlightenment, open-mindedness and energetic activity.
I must thank Mr. Saïd Akl for his inexhaustible resourcefulness which has inspired our Movement and traced its steady course, and hope that, this book (EXTRACTS FROM THE NATIONAL ALERTNESS) will very soon become a reality enjoyed by all our citizens, who would once more, assume a leading part in the making of civilization and in shaping the fate of Nations.
Ever Yours, Lebanon

The Birth of the GoC (XÇ) The Milestones of the GoC Intro to the Ideology |
|
The political parties of the East in general, and the parties of Lebanon in particular, were born and evolved around the thought of the person and his very existence. It began with the person and ended up with him. This case is typical of almost all the Lebanese parties which began to fade away and disappear upon the death of the person.
This ailing situation, compelled the people who founded the political program of the 'Guardians of the Cedars' to rely on thought and thought alone, as the ideological framework based on their belief that thought remains while persons are bound by death. Henceforth, the ideology is a complete framework in time and place and the persons serve it successively contrary to what most parties did when they subordinated the ideologies to the servitude of the persons and their continuity, the thing that led to their demise with the death of the persons.
All the positions which has been taken by the parties and the governors over the last 50 years of ruling in Lebanon was divided to 3:
The Illusionists Represented by those who run away from facing the dangerous present with its hardships and tend to lock themselves in a nonrealistic, imaginary, and non-applicable framework.
The Anecdotal Represented by those who glorify the past without enhancing the present and observing the future.
The Detached Represented during the war in Lebanon with the so-called Silent Majority that took a non participating position under the claim of renouncing the violence. They were human beings in form but empty of any human context on the level of mind, imagination, heart and passion.
The Guardians of the Cedars did not subscribe to any of these groups but rather took an outstanding position that is firmly established on objective understanding of the reality at hand and to confront it and develop it towards the better with great emphasis on the heritage of the past, the intensity of the present and a good observant look to the future. This position is based on several historic facts and universal constants that would insure the continuousness of the ideology as long as God exists, the universe is there and man is the image of God.
The ideology of the 'Guardians of the Cedars' is based on an undivided trinity that is God, Man and Lebanon
GOD The First Being; Creator of man and the universe; Owner of eternity; time and place are within him; all creatures turn to him; he is their life-force; from him springs love, freedom and knowledge; this is the trinity that man and the universe are based upon, hence, the faith in God for the 'Guardians of the Cedars' is the beginning and the end and is the lighthouse that lights the way to a safe shore.
MAN As much as the 'Guardians of the Cedars' believes in God, they also believe in everything that comes from him. Based on this formula, they believe in man who is born in the image of God, endowed with immortality after death and shares eternity with God. Man's beginning and end are the three qualities that God honored him with: Love, Knowledge and Freedom.
Love The basic quality which when it enters the composition of man, fills him with peace and joy, and he will have the power to change and will gain the greatest quality a man can get, and that is justice.
Knowledge The grace that enables man to discover the mysteries that surrounds him, whether it is seen or unseen, it also enables him to reach the ultimate truth and march steadily towards perfection; bring him closer to the Creator to feel his presence; transform him into a creative Condition, a super-creature that will fulfill what he was created for: to conclude what God has started.
Freedom The existence of freedom, is the basic condition to speak about man. Without it, what we speak about is anything but a man. In absurdity, freedom is that endless space where all components of man floats without restrictions, while in reality it is directly interrelated with all the elements of society, and at this point it is essential that it becomes a responsible freedom firmly established on love and knowledge. The greatest nation is one that can preserve and nourish the freedom of society and the freedom of individuals at the same time. This is done by eliminating the elements of slavery from the society which are symbolized by Fear, Ignorance and Need that are the result of social, political and economical injustice.
LEBANON The historic holy land; temple of God on earth: this description was considered romanticism a short time ago, but what His Holiness the Pope has said during his visit to Lebanon is a definitive proof for what we believe and will remain to believe in. Pope John Paul II literally said: "We are on a pilgrimage to Lebanon". These words need no further comment.
Lebanon will remain, as always, Lebanese without any labels. The French passed through it yet it remained Lebanese. The Ottomans ruled it and it remained Lebanese. The stinky winds of Arabism blows through it, but the wind will wither away and Lebanon will remain Lebanese. I do not know what will become of those wretched people who claim that Lebanon is Arabic when Arabism disappears from the map of the Middle East and a new Middle East would emerge, which is clean from Arabs and Arabism.
Based on three principles, that are Geography, History and the People, the 'Guardians of the Cedars' believe in the Lebanese Nationalism as a developed, firm and definitive ideology.
Geography The geography of Lebanon is characterized from the rest of the Middle East with a mountainous terrain. It is composed of two main parallel ranges - Mount Lebanon in the west and Anti- Lebanon in the east - that runs along the coast from north to south. The mountainous ranges are God's natural boundaries that separated Lebanon entirely from the desert and protected it, throughout history, from invasions and attacks. From the beginning of creation, the picture of Lebanon was with its eyes towards the sea and its back to the desert. This explains the reason why the Phoenicians spread all over the Mediterranean basin instead of the desert. The man follows the extent of his eyesight, and the extent in Lebanon is the sea.
History The Lebanese historian Jawad Boulus once said that history is the son of geography, and that is true. The land of Lebanon differs from that of the desert, and because of this rough and rigid geography the Lebanese were characterized from the others that surrounded them with strength, so their history was full and strong. All those who remained behind from the nations that once conquered this land, voluntarily gave up their traditions, adapted themselves to the Lebanese condition and melted in it.. This is so because the consecutive generations reacted with geography and were made to resemble it.
People History is the son of geography, but the people is the son of both geography and history and since the geography is distinctive in nature, history was great and both gave birth to a great people. In a quick and concise look to what the Lebanese people gave the world throughout the ages we mention:
The Lebanese traveled the Mediterranean and beyond with their ships carrying knowledge and science to the world, as explorers and not as conquerors, and established great cities that were splendid and distinctive in history. These cities were founded on knowledge and civilization and never had to carry the sword except to defend its freedom that was equal to its existence. In defending their freedom, the Lebanese have a great and dignified history and here are some of the great spots: Around 650 BC, the Assyrians under the rule of king Shalmaneser attacked by siege the city of Tyre. The city resisted the conquerors for five years after which Shalmaneser signed an armistice with the city.
580 BC, the city of Tyre resisted a 13-year siege conducted by the Chaldean king Nebuchadnessar II. After his failure to conquer the city, the king signed an armistice with it.
347 BC, Sidon resisted the Persian king Artaxes III, then burned itself to commit the first mass suicide in history.
332 BC, Tyre offered an obstinate resistance to Alexander the great. The city fell after a siege of seven month.
264-146 BC, the Phoenician wars led by Hamilcar Barca and his son Hannibal whose March on Rome from Spain across the Alps in 218-217 BC remains one of the greatest feats in military history.
636 AD, the 'Marada' put up a stubborn resistance in face of the Islamic conquest and the Khalifa Bin-Marwan was compelled to pay the 'jizya' to the Lebanese. This resistance allowed the Lebanese to maintain their independence at the time when Arab armies reached the heart of Europe.
670-700 AD, the wars of the 'Mouqaddams' against the Arabs were they held their independence in face of the Umayyads Caliphs.
950 AD, the revolt of 'Ibn Allaqa' against the Fatimids led to the independence of Tyre.
1250-1526 AD, the wars of 'Kiserwan' against the Mamluks in which Lebanese from all communities took part.
1590-1635 AD, the wars of the 'Maanies' against the Ottomans. Their greatest leader, prince Fakhruddine II defeated 'wali al-Sham' in the battle of Anjar.
1711 AD, the battle of 'Ein-Darah' where prince 'Haydar Shihab' defeated the Yemenites who where supported by the Ottomans.
1838 AD, the resistance of the Lebanese against Ibrahim Basha under the command of 'al-Shantiri' and 'Abu Ghanem Samra'.
1861 AD, the revolt of 'Yosef Karam' against Daoud Basha, the first appointed foreign governor in Lebanon.
The battle of 'Bir Hakim' during World War II. The Allies were amazed with the splendid and rare courage of the Lebanese who fought this battle.
1958 AD, the Lebanese resisted Jamal Abd al-Nasser and shattered his dream in making Lebanon part of the so-called Arab Unity.
Since 1975 and up till this very moment, the Lebanese are in continuous struggle and resistance against the Palestinians, Syrians, Iranians and their local mercenaries.
We were mindful in this presentation to ensure those who are weak-hearted, ignorant and have doubts that regardless of the rough times and difficult crisis, Lebanon will endure and prevail because its resistance, that is firmly established in history, never stopped and it is continuous in time and place.
For the 'Guardians of the Cedars', the emphasis on Lebanon's history is not meant for exultation about the glory of the past but to enhance the present, reject its menacing reality and then, based on our past and heritage, we move forward to a better and magnificent one. This is the outstanding position which we embraced in our struggle.
If the present is a continuity of the past, accordingly the future is a continuity of the present and there will be no disruption but rather endless giving |

It's normal for every political party to seek power and authority; this is one of the goals of the Guardians of the Cedars, but this ambition differs in core from the rest of the political parties present in Lebanon, in a sense that they lack the vision, the political target and program.
